Halliburton is one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the energy industry. With more than 40,000 employees representing 140 nationalities in more than 80 countries, the company covers a wide range of functions in the sector.
From managing geological data to well construction, Halliburton regularly bids for big-ticket contracts across the globe, and in its Completion and Production Division, these are often complex transactions. They need to demonstrate their ability to deliver using competent personnel who comply with the contract terms and international regulations at every stage.
Halliburton approached Sysmax to find a way to demonstrate its team’s competency for a significant bid to participate in Petro-Canada’s Terra Nova oil field off the coast of Newfoundland. A consortium of the firm’s subsidiaries and sub-contractors collaborated to deliver some of the new field’s infrastructure.
Prove competency & compliance
Although this was the third project in which Sysmax worked with Halliburton, the Terra Nova was a record-breaking contract of its kind. With many risks passed on to contractors, it was essential for them to prove their systems’ integrity and credibility. To that end, we integrated Casmax, our competency management product, into existing processes. The five-person bid-assessment team at Petro-Canada had just four weeks to turn around all bids. This meant the focus was on providing a concise way of demonstrating competency and bid compliance. Casmax’s interactive dashboard is an ideal way of doing just that.
Deploying Casmax also took away the worry of finding out about and moving rapidly to bid for new projects. It delivers a standard, well-accepted, and robust methodology for measuring and proving the competency of teams. Indeed, our deployment in the Terra Nova case demonstrates that Casmax is the right product for competency management in a global marketplace.
Demonstrating construction safety in the wake of Grenfell
Although it was part of a broader oil field project, this was predominantly a construction project for Halliburton. The deployment, therefore, demonstrates the relevance of Sysmax products to the construction sector at every level. In the wake of several high-profile cases, notably the Grenfell tower tragedy, construction companies must manage risks effectively. Demonstrating that they’re adhering to high regulatory standards for construction safety will win contracts and safeguard all stakeholders in the project.
“Sysmax’s deployment of Casmax at Halliburton was a demonstration of how critical it is for the right people to be doing the right thing, especially when there are staggering sums and broad-ranging risks involved.” Peter Mcateer, CEO Sysmax
